Cameroonian who was stabbed to death in south Cyprus was killed by 3 Nigerians

A 28-year-old Cameroonian asylum seeker in south Cyprus who was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the early hours of Sunday at Nicosia’s central bus station was killed by three Nigerians, report says.

The man was found dead at about 3:00am on Sunday after police recieved a call from residents on a man lying in a pool of blood at the Solomou Square.

The Greek Cypriot police later arrested three men, a 36-year-old, a 30-year-old and a 27-year-old in connection to the case.

The three men, identifed as Nigerians were remanded in custody for eight days by Nicosia district court on Monday.

Police investigators told the court that one of the three had admitted to killing the man. The other two deny any involvement, but the first suspect has told police they helped him chase down the victim.

The three suspects aged 27, 30 and 36 are in custody as police investigate conspiracy to commit an offence, premeditated murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to murder and possessing a weapon. They appeared in court without a lawyer.

The court heard that the victim and the suspects were at a club together near Ochi roundabout in Nicosia when at some point the victim attacked one of the three. The suspects then reportedly chased the 28 year old victim and one of them hit him with a broken bottle.

The victim managed to get to Solomou Square where he asked for help and was later found dead by a person being sought by police to give a statement as he was the last person to speak to the victim.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the area.

The three suspects objected to their remand, but the court found the police request to be justified.
