Student caught with $58,000 cash in Girne arrested for offering police bribe

A boy who was found with $58,700 in Girne has been arrested and detained for offering police bribe.

The accused was reportedly walking on the street of Girne when he was stopped by police during a peace operation to rid the society of miscreant and illegal residents. Police carried out a search on him and found $58,000 in his possession.

He was then summoned to the police station to give an account on how he got the money.

According to police report, he then tired to offer police bribe during questioning. 

Can we negotiate, I can give you some cash, he is quoted as saying to the Assistant Inspector of police. 

He was transferred to court.

Police say the issue is a very serious offence.

The accused was detained for three days.
