Palestinian steals car in south Cyprus and brought it illegally to north Cyprus

A Palestinian who illegally brought a stolen car from south Cyprus to north Cyprus has been arrested and detained.

The accused identified as Yasser Abdalbaqi Kolthoum, committed the crime in April, 2019.

He was arrested and taken to a military court in Lefkosa in a police investigation into a case of an illegal carriage of stolen car from Southern Cyprus to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The accused had rented the Wolswagen Golf model car belonging to Formula Rent A Car located in Famagusta in Southern Cyprus in April 2019, and violated the military zone in the TRNC by passing it into the TRNC.

He was supposed to use the car between April 12-22, 2019 when he rented it.

He was identified and arrested in Lefkosa after the car owner raised an alarm on the issue.

Police also found some drug substance in the car. The suspect who had no legal status in the country confessed to the crime.

He was ordered by the court judge on Saturday, June, 29 to remain in detention for a period of two months until trial.
