Gay man jailed for four months in North Cyprus for promoting prostitution and trafficking women

A man who was found guilty of trafficking women to Cyprus and promoting prostitution has been jailed for four months by a court in Girne, north Cyprus.

The accused, Alican Sert was found guilty by the court president on Thursday last week for panned and organized crime and for promoting prostitution of women he brought from abroad.

He was accused of encouraging three women to have sexual intercourse with men on different dates with the intention to earn money.

The accused who is gay, provides accommodation for the women where they are encouraged to sleep with men in exchange for money.

He receives half of the money paid to the women which he uses to take care of himself and his family.

Police say he does this job in a planned and organized way and had become a profession for him.

Police noted that such act puts public health at risk and causes the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

His lawyer demanded that he should not be sent to prison due to his sexual preference stating that the conditions of homosexual individuals in prison constitute a problem.

The accused was sentence to 4 months in prison, with a directive that his safety in prison is ensured.
