North Cyprus government to introduce Work Amnesty in October

The TRNC government is set to introduce a Work Amnesty Bill into law when the TRNC parliament resumes seating in October.

The bill was proposed to curb the number of illegal workers in North Cyprus said the TRNC Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Faiz Sucuoglu.

The minister also noted that they would also be stopping workers entering the TRNC from third countries (Countries outside the TRNC and Turkey) for the time being.

Currently, there are around 9,000 people who are illegal workers in the TRNC who are homeless and sleeping rough, Sucuoglu said. 

In 2010 the workers from third countries numbered 2917, in 2018 this number reached 14,657. This is a six-fold increase. Also, the number of workers from Turkey in 2010 were 27, 792 and in 2018 were 33,255, he said.
