Turkish Cypriot female police boss brought to court in hospital bed over corruption charges

A North Cyprus police inspector was brought to a Lefkosa court in sick bed to face corruption charges over false property acquisition scandal that has rocked the country in the last few weeks.

The police inspector identified only by the initial, G.O has been remanded in prison for allegedly abusing her office by receiving bribe in an investigation over false property acquisition in the country and releasing of confidential information that abused her task.

Her lawyer, referring to the rights of the suspect in court on Wednesday, demanded protection of her rights. 

Police prosecutor told the court that the accused between the period 2016-2019 took bribe in unfair property acquisition and the disclosure of official secrets and misconduct in Lefkosa and Girne.

The woman is accused of contacting a person under investigation in June, 2016, revealing a secret letter to him and demanded bribe from him to protect him from police raids.

Police noticed and found unauthorized calls, official documents, files laptops, hard disks, CDs following a search in her car and house on court orders.

She was ordered to be detained for 6 days for the purpose of investigation.
