Greek Cypriot official found guilty and sentenced to four months in jail for supplying Nigerian goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho with a health card prematurely following his transfer to Cyprus

A Greek Cypriot man has been found guilty and sentenced to four months in jail supplying Nigerian goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho with a health card prematurely following his transfer to Cyprus.

Former Anorthosis deputy chairman Kyriacos Yiangou received the sentenced on Tuesday after the court found him guilty.

According to a report by Greek Cypriot daily, Cyprus Mail, Yiangou, a doctor, was sentenced to four months in jail and was suspended from football for three years.

Nigerian goalkeeper, Uzoho, was signed by Greek Cypriot football club, Anorthosis on the last day of the January transfer period 2019.

Following the signing, rival club Apollonas reported that he had only arrived in Cyprus the day prior to their match.

The Limassol-based club questioned how Uzoho could have had his health card issued as he had arrived on the island about an hour after the Cyprus Sports Association’s (KOA) offices closed.

Apollonas also reported to police that the medical card used was probably forged.
