AtlasGlobal stops operations, files for bankruptcy

Turkish carrier, AtlasGlobal Airlines has filed for bankruptcy, the aviation website Airport Haber said on Wednesday.

General Coordinator of the airline Orhan Sancar shared the news on his Facebook page saying “Goodbye” with an image of AtlasGlobal aircraft.

Atlasglobal has stopped all flight operations and is preparing to file for bankruptcy. It was learned that a meeting was held with personnel at Atlasglobal and that they were notified to not come to work from tomorrow, Airport Haber stated.

AtlasGlobal also flying in and out of Ercan airport, North Cyprus at one time had five direct Turkey-Cyprus flights from İstanbul, İzmir, Adana and Gaziantep and Hatay with Hatay-Cyprus flights offered four times a week.

A statement by the firm said employee compensations would be paid and outstanding passenger tickets would be reimbursed, but no date was given for these payments.

Our legal department is working on the date of the payments, the statement said.

It was well-known that the airline has been experiencing financial difficulties for some time. The airline had previously temporarily suspended its flights in November, saying that the transfer to İstanbul’s new airport had caused it cash flow problems with a sharp rise in costs.

The İstanbul-based AtlasGlobal, named Atlasjet until 31 March 2015, was recently facing financial difficulties.

On 26 November 2019, AtlasGlobal announced a temporary suspension of all flights due to a restructuring of the airline. It was further announced that all ticket sales would be suspended until 16 December 2019 with flights planned to resume by 21 December.
