Greek Cypriot man detained for mistakenly entering north Cyprus

A Greek Cypriot man who “mistakenly” crossed into the TRNC while “walking his dogs” in a military zone near Akıncılar, have been detained by Turkish Cypriot police.

Yiannakis Aristidou was arrested after his car was found stuck in the mud on Sunday last week, Lefkoşa District Court heard.

He told police that he had driven to the area with his dogs when his vehicle became stranded.

Mr Aristidou was charged with violating a “first degree” military zone and remanded in custody by Judge Temay Sağer for up to two days.
