Man calls police in south Cyprus after assaulting his wife but wife denies claims

A 37 year old man reported himself to the police in south Cyprus after assaulting his partner.

The incident happened in Limassol on Friday.

The man who was remanded in police custody for six days for assault, causing serious bodily harm and exercising psychological violence reportedly hit his 42 year old partner and then called police to come quickly because she needed to be taken to hospital urgently.

Police arrived the couple's apartment and found the woman lying on the bed, bruised and bleeding.

During questioning the man admitted to hitting her, allegedly because she had bothered his mother on the telephone but the woman said she had fallen down the stairs.

She was taken to Limassol hospital in an ambulance where doctors diagnosed multiple bruises on her face, scar on the shoulder, a broken nose and broken ribs.
