Man who murdered his wife on World Women's Day in north Cyprus was drunk and regret action

A man who stabbed and murdered his wife in the middle of the street in Kyrenia, north Cyprus on Sunday, says he regrets his actions.

The man identified as Abdullah Çelik stabbed his wife with a bread knife on several parts of her body at about 9:45pm on Sunday.

The woman, Elif Lort, 45 died moments later in a Lefkosa hospital due to the knife injuries she sustained in the incident.

The man was arrested and taken to a court in Kyrenia under tight security measures on murder charges.


Speaking in court, the accused said; "I regret I didn't want to hurt her."

The court ordered Abdullah Çelik to remain in detention for 3 days. 

According to report, the man stabbed Elif Lort who wanted to leave him while under influence of alcohol. She was stabbed in the throat and various parts of the body.
