Nine new cases of coronavirus confirmed in South Cyprus and one in British Bases

Nine new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in southern Cyprus on Wednesday evening bringing the total number of cases in the country to 58.

According to the announcement on Wednesday, over half, 31 of the cases, are from contacts with confirmed cases.
One of the case concerns a doctor, a paediatrician at Limassol general hospital who had recently returned from Greece in the last few days and went back to work.

The doctor according to a report by Cyprus Mail attended a seminar in the hospital with other doctors on Tuesday.

140 tests were carried out on Wednesday and one of the nine new cases is a nurse in Paphos who had been in contact with a previously confirmed case.

Four of the new cases relate to a previously confirmed case with whom they came into contact.

Three of the new cases are people who returned from Greece. They contacted health authorities once they presented symptoms.

Another case is connected to a person whose background is still being investigated.

Another case involving a member of the British Forces Cyprus community permanently based in Akrotiri was also recorded at the British Bases on Wednesday.

The individual is currently in self-isolation and is displaying only mild symptoms, they said in an announcement issued on Wednesday.

The case brings the total number of cases within the British Bases to three.
