Woman murdered in the middle of the street in Kyrenia North Cyprus as world celebrates women's day (Updated)

On a day when women are being celebrated all over the world, the TRNC was thrown into mourning after a woman became the latest victim of domestic violence.

A 45 years old woman was stabbed to death in the middle of the street on Sunday, March, 8 by a man in Kyrenia, north Cyprus.

The incident happened at about 9:45pm on Sunday at Nahit Hasan Street. The woman identified as Elif Lort was stabbed in various part of her body with a knife by a 41-year-old man.

She was rushed to the Akçiçek Hospita in Girne and then to the Lefkosa State Hospital. Despite all efforts by medical personal to save her life, the woman succumbed to her injuries and passed away at about 11:30pm.   

Her attacker was arrested and taken to a court in Kyrenia on Monday.

Accused

The court ordered that the accused be sent to prison for a period of 3 days to enable police carry out more investigation on the incident.

The reason for his action could not be determined at the time of this report.
