Movement between districts banned in North Cyprus for 5 days

The TRNC government has placed a ban on the movement of people from one district to the other for five days beginning from April 6. 

The decision was taken on Saturday after a meeting by the TRNC Council of Ministers.

The new ban on movement for five days will start from Monday, April, 6 at 12:00am.

Under the new measure to combat the spread of coronavirus in the country, there shall be no movement between districts within the country.

In addition to the decision, three regions, Lapta, Karsiyaka and Alsancak will be placed under quarantine and under heavy police control as entry and exit will be prohibited.

Under the authority granted by Article 2 of the Curfew Law (Chapter 156), the Council of Ministers of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with a view to preventing the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), has extended the partial curfew declared on 22 March 2020 until 10, April 2020, and is introducing a travel ban between all six districts for 5 days commencing at 00:00 on 6 March 2020.

1. The Council of Ministers exempts from the restrictions all essential public-sector workers (police, fire dept. municipalities, civil defence, district office, health care personnel) and private sector employees, who are permitted to work to maintain essential services. All other individuals are subject to the conditions of the partial curfew in place.

2. Aside from the above-mentioned examples, individuals who must leave their place of residence for non-commercial humanitarian or health-related purposes or who require essential public services must do so within the boundaries of the district they reside in and through facilities which are closest to their place of residence. Individuals are required to return to their place of residence as soon as acquiring these services and will not be permitted to leave their homes for other purposes.

3. While the partial curfew continues to remain in place in Lapta, Karşıyaka and Alsancak, entry/exit to/from these areas will be subject to police control.

4. Those who violate the conditions set by the partial curfew will be subject to legal prosecution.
