Seven new cases of Covid-19 recorded in north Cyprus

Seven new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Northern Cyprus on Wednesday bringing the total number of cases there to 77 and two deaths. 

A second death was also recorded on Wednesday when an 83-year-old woman from Germany who was in hospital with coronavirus passed away bringing the total number of death there to 2.

The woman was among the group of German tourists placed in quarantine by Turkish Cypriot authorities after one of their co-travellers was tested positive to coronavirus earlier in March.

She was admitted to hospital on March 20 and in the intensive care unit four days later. She had underlying health conditions. Meanwhile, a 73-year-old man, also from Germany died last Saturday.

Seven new cases were confirmed in 488 tests carried out on Wednesday. 

3 of the 7 new positive cases were identified from Karpaz and were as a result of contact with a positive case, 1 of them emerged as a result of follow-up from Alsancak, while 2 new cases were that of a married couple from the USA and lived in Lefkosa.

Health Minister Ali Pilli made recent statements to BRT about new cases.
