Student arrested for damaging cars, chair in Girne causes commotion in court

A student who was arrested for deliberately destroying properties in Girne on Wednesday reportedly displayed aggressive attitude in the courtroom. 

The accused, an African was arrested in Girne on Wednesday April, 8 for causing a disturbance and destroying several properties 

He was taken to a court in Girne on Thursday on charges of causing damage, disturbance, and carrying of illegal object.

Appearing in court, the accused reportedly threw the mask on his face to the ground, and was forced to take off his sweater.  

Turkish Cypriot media reported that the court judge, police, prosecutor, lawyers and interpreter tried to calm him down before the court case could continue.

According to police statement, the accused tore a chair in the house where he was a guest, broke the ceiling by punching it with his hand, kicked the doors, broke the windows of 5 cars in the car park, causing 34 thousand 400 TL of damage in the process.

He was sent to jail for a period of 3 days until trial.
