27-year-old still missing at sea after 4 days of extensive search

Search for man who went missing on Saturday while trying to rescue a friend from drowning at the sea in Alagadi, north Cyprus will continue for the 5th day on Wednesday after several efforts to locate him yielded no results.

Search had been on going for 27-year-old Mehmet Ceyhan since the incident happened on Saturday. The search was suspended at about 6:15pm on Tuesday.

Police, Civil Defense, Police Special Operations Directorate teams, fishermen and coast guards had in the last four days carried out extensive search in areas around the sea and in the sea using helicopters and drones.

Search were suspended on Saturday and Sunday due to bad weather condition and continued on Monday and Tuesday. 

In the last four days, his family and friends have waited patiently by the sea side during the search.

Ceyhan jumped into the sea at Alagadi on Saturday in an effort to help rescue 22-year-old Gözde Nur Binbir who was overcome by heavy sea waves after they went to swim with friends. 

Her body was recovered while Ceyhan was missing. 

Search for the 24-year-old will continue on Wednesday according to the weather conditions.
