Crossings for certain groups of Turkish Cypriots and enclaved to open June 8

Leaders of the divided Cyprus island on Thursday agreed to allow some groups of people use the crossings between the two sides from June 8.

According to media report from both side of the island on Thursday, leaders of the two side, Nicos Anastasiades, president of Republic of Cyprus and Mustafa Akinci, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus held a telephone conversation on Thursday on a decision on the gradual lifting of movement restrictions.

Cyprus Mail reported that it was agreed, that initially, some groups of people will be allowed to cross from June 8 but only by car.

These concern Turkish Cypriots working or studying in the south or people who undergo treatment at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, the Institute of Neurology and Genetics and state or private hospitals within the Republic.

The enclaved and Maronites who reside permanently in the north, will also be allowed to cross from June 8.
Movement will be allowed from the Ledra Palace crossing for pupils and the crossing of people for humanitarian reasons will be allowed too.

The Cypriot government will regularly conduct random tests on people who will be passing from the crossing points too.
