EMU to change grading system amid coronavirus pandemic

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), north Cyprus as a result of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the world have decided to change it's grading system for the 2019/2020 Spring semester.

The system "Successful (CS) / Fail (C)" grade system are already in use in several universities in Turkey.

According to an announcement by the university on Tuesday, EMU Senate, at its meeting on April 30, took the decision to prevent any student grievances that may arise from the possible difficulties related to the psychological trauma caused by the pandemic.

To minimize this, the university have decided to use the Pass / Fail grade system to be applied only in the Spring Semester 2019-2020 on courses that have to be taken online, apart from the usual education system.

In this system, after seeing the letter grades, students will be able to request to convert the grade of the courses in which they received a letter grade between the dates July 7, 2020 and September 14, 2020 for a one-time successful / unsuccessful system.

EMU Student Council President Mustafa Kırılmaz gave a positive opinion about the system to be implemented and thanked those who contributed to the preparation of the system in his speech at the senate meeting.
