112 CM long and 10kg crocodile fish found dead on the shores of Gonyeli Dam

112cm long 10kg crocodile fish (Atractosteus spatula) was found on the shores of Gonyeli Dam on Sunday

The team from Cyprus Wildlife Research Institute, which posted the photos of the dead giant fish on social media , said they were contacted by people who saw the fish on the shores of a dam in Gonyeli

In the first examinations done by the team it was revealef that it was spatula type crocodile fish.

Taşkent Nature Park pointed out that although these species can reach 1.8 meters and 45 kilograms, and maximum 3 meters and 160 kilograms, they can be imported as goldfish to our country with the permission of the Veterinary Department.  He said that it is a very rare species and it takes about 10 years to reach this point.

In his statement, Ulas Seherlioglu, a Wild Life Rescue and Rehabilitation Specialist, said that crocodile fish, which was hunted by ambushing, is generally fed with other fish but consumed water birds and other mammals in other parts of the world.

Even though the fish was thought to be unable to adapt and died after being left in the pond by uncaring people , there is also the possibility that the fish might have lived in that pond a long time.

In order to collect information on this subject, the animal will be necropsied on Monday and the contents of the stomach will be examined.
