Donald Trump to withdraw US troops from Germany

WASHINGTON -US President  Donald Trump has approved a plan to withdraw US troops currently based in Germany which amounts to 9,500 by September according to USA media.

Trump complained that Nato members should spend more money and time on their defense and security issues, he reportedly wants US troop levels capped at 25,000.

Tensions have intensified between US and NATO allies since Mr. Trump took office in January 2017. He said that Europes  NATO members should no longer rely heavily on the US to fund the maintenance of the alliance.

Yesterday Mr. Trump ordered the Defense house (pentagon} to remove almost a third of the troops currently based in Germany according to the Wall Street Journal. US Defense Department would need to approve the plan before it could be implemented.

Whitehouse spokesman John Ullyot said that the US remained committed to working with their strong ally Germany on defense and other issues.

Trump at previous NATO summits raised the issue of burden-sharing among member states of the alliance.
