Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) gets new Rector

Prof.  Dr. Aykut Hocanın has been elected as the new rector of the Eastern Mediterranean University, Famagusta, North Cyprus.

Hocanın was victorious following a second round of voting for the position held at the university in Gazimağusa on Monday.

The aim of the vote was to determine the tendency of the university’s academic and administrative staff.

The result of the vote will be presented to the EMU Senate which will make the official decision.

Hocanın defeated his rival Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen with 721 to 489 votes.

Expressing his gratitude following his election, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın said that the election had been conducted in a dignified and democratic manner.

He added that as long as the Eastern Mediterranean family was in unity and cooperation there was no problem that could not be solved.
