Man who killed student in an accident said he lost concentration because of a fly

Mustafa Volkan Hasanbulli, the driver of the vehicle who fled after colliding with and killing a 20-year-old student on Thursday night, appeared in a Lefkosa court on Friday on charges of murder.

20-year-old Ngoy David Kakudjı was hit by a careless driver when he tried to cross the road on foot in Karaoğlanoğlu at about 10:30PM on Thursday.

The driver of the vehicle escaped after the incident and the car was later found across the street, 300 meters away from the accident scene. 

According to police report, the suspect identified as Mustafa Volkan Hasanbulli came to the police with his lawyer and surrendered after fleeing from the accident scene. 

He was arrested by the police and charged to court.

Police prosecutor told the court that the suspect was driving carelessly from the north of the road to the south towards the direction of Girne on Karaoğlanoğlu Street at 11:30pm on Thursday, June, 11, 2020 when he hit Ngoy David Kakudjı.

Police said Ngoy David Kakudji could not be saved despite all interventions.

The accused told the told court that he lost concentration because of a fly that flew into his eyes. 

Fly flew into my eyes, I lost my attention for a moment, he said in court. 

He said while driving, he felt that something entered his eye and lost concentration for a moment, and at that moment he felt that he had hit something, but later realized what had happened and called his lawyer and surrendered.

The Judge who evaluated the case before him ordered that the suspect be detained for 3 days for more investigations to be carried out by the police.
