TRNC to introduce the island as student friendly by Fall 2020-2021, plans purchase discounts for students

TRNC aims to introduce the island as student friendly by Fall 2020-2021, said Minister of National Education and Culture Nazım, Çavuşoğlu.

Çavuşoğlu who noted that education in the country has been suspended since 10 March due to the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19), stated that the period will be compensated for in the new academic period starting on September 1." 

He said “We previously had a slogan 'University Island Cyprus', we are changing it this year to  the slogan 'Student Friendly Island'. 

We will give a card to the students and we will tell the businesses to give discounts and students will continue their lives smoothly by getting a major discounts from the shops, markets, restaurants, salons etc.

He also said the government will improve services that the students have complained about.

Mr Çavusoglu said  they want the friendships and the beauty of the geography on the island to attract students.

They come here as students and we want them to come also on their honeymoon, he said.
The minister continued by saying we believe that our students will prefer TRNC again in the 2020-2021 academic year and they will have much better days with the Student Friendly Island card."

He noted that students in the island were not affected by the outcome of Covid-19. We have 103 thousand registered and 80 thousand active university students in TRNC.  None of our students were affected by the Covid -19 outbreak. 

MR Çavuşoğlu stated that with the beginning of the normalization process, a decision was made regarding the entry of TRNC citizens into the country as of June 8, and that they have taken a decision to allow students to enter the country as of June 8.

Students who will come to TRNC in June must enter the quarantine for 14 days in their dormitories. However, the students will not pay the quarantine fee. Noting that the foreign students staying in the country are with them.
Çavuşoğlu underlined that the government  provided food aid to more than 7 thousand students and that universities helped to provide food for the students in need.

The minister stated that they have established the line and made great efforts to meet all kinds of demands of the students.

The students have survived this epidemic in the most comfortable environment they can spend in the TRNC, in my opinion, in the world, he said.
