Universities in the TRNC to offer Summer school online, tourists told to extend their visas

The TRNC Council of Ministers on Tuesday decided that universities in the island carry out online education during the summer period and urge foreigners with a tourist visa who had been unable to leave the TRNC during the lockdown to extend their visas for 90 days.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Government Spokesperson Kudret Özersay after a four-hour meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Ersin Tatar.

Özersay said between June, 15 and September, 30, universities in the TRNC will deliver online education during the summer period.

Under our laws, online education required special permission. We made a decision within the framework of the proposal brought by the Minister of Education. Online education will continue throughout the summer, he said.

He said foreigners with a tourist visa who had been unable to leave the TRNC during the lockdown, would be able to extend their visas for 90 days.

A decision was taken to allow these people to be allowed to stay up to 90 days without penalty, so that their status does not become illegal, he said.

Speaking on expired driving license, he said a decision was made to extend it until 15 July 2020 without paying a penalty.

Özersay said weddings can hold from July 1, if there is no significant change in the current conditions noting that the temporary ban on festivals and and other public events has been lifted.

He announced that the Council of Ministers will meet again on Thursday to decide on which countries, under what conditions, the visitors will be allowed to enter the TRNC, within the framework of the suggestions or recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

We will share the dates and conditions of departures and arrivals, and from which countries we will accept passengers without quarantine, provided that a PCR test has already been carried out.
