One new case of coronavirus reported in northern Cyprus

One new case of coronavirus has been reported in North Cyprus. This is coming less than 24 hours after the country opened it's borders to arrivals from abroad.

In an announcement on Wednesday night, TRNC Minister of Health, Ali Pilli said one case of coronavirus was reported among passengers who came by sea.

The new case concern a passenger from Taşucu, Turkey who came to the island by ship on Wednesday. A PCR test carried out by the individual in Turkey showed he was negative for the virus but another test conducted in the TRNC came out positive.

The patient was transferred to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for treatment. 

The contacts of the case have been identified and will be kept under surveillance in quarantine hotels by the Ministry of Health.

The Minister said 803 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours and among them, 434 were concluded while work continue on 369 tests.

He said the 434 test from which the positive case was reported are the tests made for passengers arriving by sea and passengers traveling abroad from the TRNC.

The 369 pending tests were made for passengers coming to the country by air.

All 400 passengers who arrived by air in two flights on Wednesday were all negative for the virus.

As per procedure, all arrivals will be made to undergo PCR test while they are to self isolate until the result is out.

It's been 74 days since the last case of coronavirus was reported in the north of Cyprus.
