Seven men sent to prison for stealing luxury cars in UK and sending them to the TRNC

Seven men responsible for stealing luxury cars in the UK and sending them to north Cyprus has been sent to 20 years in prison in the UK.

Those responsible for the act reportedly stole vehicle worth over 5 million pounds including Mercedes, Range Rover and BMW.

The culprits were arrested by the police in London and brought to court in an operation that lasted for 14 months.

It was determined that 120 luxury vehicles were stolen in England and sent to Cyprus.

The men obtained high value cars in the UK through fraud offences such as identity fraud, fraudulent insurance claims and the sale of vehicles belonging to finance companies.

Members, Dervish Chaglar and Mert Isik, then organised for the stolen vehicles to be sold to an illicit market in northern Cyprus using their company ‘Test Cars’ as a cover.

The crime group removed tracking devices, re-registered vehicles and used fake licence plates to avoid detection, before passing the cars on to couriers, who drove the vehicles through Europe to north Cyprus.

Among those arrested for the crime and sent to prison is 48-year-old Turkish Cypriot, Derviş Çağlar who was given a 6 years prison sentence.

The police announced the other two men who were sentenced as Turkish Cypriot Mert İskit and British citizen Martin Woodhouse.

Three other gang members were sentenced on Monday after their hearing was delayed by the Covid-19 outbreak.
