TRNC to celebrate 46th anniversary of Turkish Peace Operation on Monday 20 July

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will on Monday July, 20 mark the 46th anniversary of the 20th of July Peace Operation.

Turkish forces, 46 years ago, landed at Girne and parachuted just outside of Lefkoşa as part of an operation to protect Turkish Cypriots from annihilation.

Celebrations will kick off at noon on Sunday with a 21 gun salute followed by an address to the nation by President Mustafa Akıncı aired on BRT.

The first ceremony on Monday, July 20 will take place in front of the Lefkoşa Atatürk Monument followed by a similar ceremony in front of the Martyrs’ Monument.

A symbolic ceremony will be held at the Yavuz Çıkarma Beach on Monday morning.

A military parade will also take place on Monday at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard.

One of the landing crafts used during the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation which has been converted into a floating museum will also be inaugurated on Monday morning.

The museum has been anchored at the Girne port.
