6 months pregnant woman lost a twin baby after she was hit by a car in Lefke

A 31-year-old pregnant woman has lost one of her babies after she was hit by a car in Lefke on Friday.


The woman identified as Cristina Zeybek who was 6 months pregnant with twins was hit by a car driven by 23-year-old Gözde Coşan on the Lefke Atatürk Street at about 9:00am on Friday morning.

The driver of the car had reportedly lost control of the vehicle, hit the pregnant woman and climbed the roadside pavement.

The pregnant woman was trying to cross the road when she was hit by the car.

Police said the driver of the car was driving with excessive speed and carelessness when she lost control of the wheels

Zeybek, who was injured as a result of the accident, was taken to Cengiz Topel Hospital, where she was transferred in an ambulance to the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosa where it was confirmed that one of the twin babies died in the womb. She also broke her right foot in the incident.

Suspect Gözde Coşan was arrested and to brought to court in Güzelyurt later in the day.

Police Press statement later said

The baby of pregnant pedestrian Cristina Zeybek, who was injured after a traffic accident this morning in Lefke, was found to be dead for 3-4 days prior to the accident, and the death of the baby was not due to the accident.
