73-year-old man who hit Nigerian student with a car in Famagusta that left her in critical condition is charged to court

A 73-year-old Turkish Cypriot man who hit a 26-year-old Nigerian student with a car in Famagusta that caused her serious injures has been held in police custody and charged to court.

Ahmet Kızan struck Abigail Komolafe with a car while she was using a pedestrian crossing in front of Sema Hotel in Mustafa Kemal Boulevard in Famagusta at about 10:40am on Saturday last week.

She suffered from brain haemorrhage, fractured pelvis and injury to the foot.

Abigal was first rushed to Famagusta Hospital and later transferred to Dr Burhan NalbantoÄŸlu State Hospital in Lefkosa where she remains in intensive care unit and her condition said to be critical.

Kızan who was charged with dangerous driving, failing to give priority to pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing and causing a traffic accident resulting in serious injury to a pedestrian appeared before a judge on Monday.
