TRNC Ministry of Health publishes advisory

The TRNC Ministry of Health has issued an advisory reminding the public of the importance to adhering to COVID-19 rules, regulations and measures. 

The advisory points out that there is a general increase in the number of COVID-19 cases around the world which is why it is imperative to be cautious against symptoms, to avoid contact, to isolate or maintain social distancing and full rules and regulations as instructed. 

The statement also reminded that it was important to avoid crowded spaces in an attempt to prevent the spread of the virus. 

“COVID-19 is transmitted through droplets dispensing from the nose and mouth. That is why a person infected with COVID-19 can infect those around him/her through coughing, sneezing or speaking. The virus can also remain active on surfaces on which droplets from the infected person land and can infect persons who touch such surfaces before touching their nose, mouth and eyes,” the statement read. 

The advisory also warned the public that some individuals may not display or show symptoms of the virus but may continue to infect others around them. It says that it is of utmost importance that the public continues to maintain social distancing, wear masks and show attention to personal hygiene. Vulnerable groups are also advised to refrain from social activities which will put them at risk. 

Individuals above the age of 65 who suffer from chronic respiratory illnesses, heart disease, kidney problems, high blood pressure, diabetes and liver problems should self-isolate and avoid social
