Water supply from Turkey delayed by bad weather to be restored by Sept. 29

The completion date of the repair work in the TRNC Water Supply Project has been postponed to September, 29 due to weather conditions.

State Hydraulic Works of Turkey in a statement said, adverse weather conditions affected all efforts to fix it, so the job completion date was revised to September 29, 2020.

It was reported that the works initiated by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) in order to eliminate the malfunction in the "Sea Crossing Transmission Line" within the scope of the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Water Supply Project" were affected by adverse weather conditions.

Repair works being carried out on the pipes
Local communities have been facing problems over water shortages this summer after undersea water supply which runs between Anamur, Mersin and the Gecitkoy Reservoir in North Cyprus was cut off eight months ago.

Strong winds and big waves have delayed completion of the project. It was reported that winds reaching 34 kts and waves three metres high caused a loss of four days work.

Between 17-20 September, vessels working in the area at night had to leave and take shelter in a bay. Yesterday, in 30 kts of wind, vessels laying pipes went on standby to protect the pipes which were lying on the surface.
