Six students arrested after trying to dispose of drug at a traffic light in Güzelyurt

Six students were arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for drugs while they were in a rented car at a traffic light in Güzelyurt.

The students, from Zimbabwe were all in a rented car at a traffic light at Cengiz Topel Hospital road junction in Yeşilyurt at about 9:00pm on Saturday, October, 31, when one of them threw a wallet containing 4 grams of drugs out of the car window after sighting the police.

The suspects were arrested on the charges of "Saving Unlawful Drugs (Cannabis)" and taken to a court in Lefkosa for trial on Sunday, November, 1.

Police said they were also driving without light.

Police prosecutor told the court that they were identified and arrested by police officers working at the Directorate of Prevention of Narcotics and Smuggling.

Police said they were stopped for police control when they noticed that a black wallet was thrown out from the left front door window of the vehicle.

In the presence of the suspects, about 4 grams of cannabis type drug believed to be in the wallet was found which was taken as an exhibit.

The court judge ordered that they be deteined for 3 days for more investigations to be carried out.
