Police bust birthday party in Lefkosa, arrest 13 students (video)

A group of African students were busted by Turkish Cypriot police on Monday evening for attending a birthday party in Lefkosa.

The group of 13 people including 11 male and 2 female were busted by the police who raided a house party in 10th Street, Mamara, Lefkosa at about 6:05pm on Monday evening.

They were all taken to the hospital for coronavirus tests after which they will be charged with “non-compliance with legal orders by disregarding a government imposed curfew.

Video of the students being guided into a waiting police van have been widely circulated on social media and generating mixed reactions.

The government last week introduced a total lockdown in the TRNC until February 15 due to the increasing number of cases. During this period, going out on the street and any form of gathering is strictly prohibited.

***We advice everyone to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary gathering and movement except it is essential. Being indoors and safe is far better than being in a hospital bed begging for life or in police detention.

If you have any reason to go out, please obtain a permit.

Meanwhile Happy Valentine as you enjoy the lockdown.
