Brief about Mothers Day
Mother’s Day is a special day that is set aside to honor the beloved mothers in our family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Father's Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents Day.

The modern Mother's Day began in the United States, at the initiative of Anna Jarvis in the early 20th century. She campaigned in 1905 to make Mother’s Day an official holiday in the America.

The proposal was rejected and lawmakers even joked that if they allowed Mother’s Day, then there would have to be Mothers-in-Law Day.

Her mother died in the same year and she wanted to commemorate her mother, a peace activist, who tended to injured soldiers during the American Civil War. In addition, Jarvis wanted to address public health problems with the celebration of Mother’s Day. Thankfully, 1911 saw Mother’s Day as an official holiday.

The U.S.-derived modern version of Mother's Day has been criticized for having become too commercialized. Founder Jarvis herself regretted this commercialism and expressed views on how that was never her intention.

This is not (directly) related to the many traditional celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have existed throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, Rhea the Great Mother of the Gods, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration (originally a commemoration of Mother Church, not motherhood). However, in some countries, Mother's Day is still synonymous with these older traditions.

From us at Olomoinfo Blog, we say Happy Mothers Day to all wonderful and caring mothers in the world.
