TRNC Minister of Economy and Energy want electricity to be increased

TRNC Minister of Economy and Energy, Erhan Arıklı has called for the increase in the price of electricity in the country.

Erhan made the call during proceeding in parliament last week.

Speaking at the parliament, Erhan stated that the Electricity Authority "sold the electricity for a loss" and said that it is not possible to continue.

Claiming that some austerity measures were taken, Arıklı stated that it is not possible for now to “reflect on the citizens as a discount”.

Arıklı said, “Electricity sells for 119 kurus, the institution sells for 99 kurus. The loss of the institution in January was 21 million TL. It is not possible to continue. The institution will set a new price. "We will talk about how we can solve the hike to be made in accordance with the regulation within the state".

Noting that it is necessary to lower the production costs in order to reduce electricity, Arıklı explained that it is important to switch to gas in production. "Gas is not the solution, it is essential the interconnected system to be done.
