Group of 11 people arrested for trying to enter south Cyprus illegally, said they were deceived

A group of 11 people who tried to enter south Cyprus illegally from north Cyprus were arrested and detained.

The group were identified and arrested at about 2:30am on Friday, April, 9 after they were found hidden in the courtyard of a night club close to a military zone in Alayköy, Lefkosa.

They had gathered at the night club with the intention of crossing from the north of Cyprus to the south.

The suspects were brought before the court on Friday on charges of forming a secret alliance to commit a crime.

Police said that one of the suspects gave a voluntary statement and confessed to the crime. This statement should be confirmed and denied.

Speaking in court through their translators, some of the suspects said they were deceived and made mistakes, while others claimed that they had no connection with the incident.

They also said they paid 200 Euros to the driver that will help them cross and the organizer.

Police said three others connected with the crime were wanted.

They were ordered to be detained for 3 days for investigation purposes.
