Mobile police vehicles that detect speed will begin inspection across the TRNC on June, 1

The TRNC Police General Directorate (PGM) has announced that 5 police vehicles will from June, 1, 2021 start vehicle patrol and inspections on all major roads across the country.

According to a statement made by the Police Press Officer on Thursday, it will be checked whether vehicles on which a mobile speed detection radar device is installed and vehicles traveling on the main roads comply with speed limits.

The vehicles equipped with the system will patrol 5 districts, namely Lefkosa, Famagusta, Girne, Güzelyurt and Iskele.

As from June 1, 2021, they will start speed controls across the country, generally on main roads with heavy traffic to detect drivers who exceeded the speed limits.

Criminal action will be taken against drivers of vehicles caught over the speed limit.

The Directorate in a statement said:

While the vehicles in question are underway; It has the feature of detecting both passing vehicles that exceed the speed limit by taking photographs of the vehicles exceeding the speed limit. The purpose of this application; is to ensure drivers develop a habit of obeying speed limits in traffic, to control fast driving, which is the first cause of traffic accidents in the country.
