Police arrest brother of Nigerian student who passed away in Gonyeli after drug was found in his apartment

Turkish Cypriot police have arrested a man following the death of a 27-year-old Nigerian in Gonyeli on Wednesday, after drugs were found in a search carried out in their apartment.

According to reports in local media, the suspect identified only as F.I, was arrested on Wednesday, June, 2, after drugs were found in a search carried out in their apartment in Gonyeli.

The suspect was taken to a court in Lefkosa on Friday on charges of illegal drug use. 

Police officer who testified in court, said a substance believed to be a cannabis type drug weighing half a gram was found in a search conducted by the Department of Narcotics and Smuggling and the Forensic Branch team at the suspect's residence in Gönyeli on Wednesday, June, 2, 2021. 

Police said an autopsy will be performed on the deceased and they will be investigated for drugs in his blood. 

The police said that the investigation into drugs was continuing and demanded that the suspect be detained for 4 days so that the investigation could be carried out safely.

Speaking in court, the suspect said, “The deceased is my brother. I'm not happy with what happened to him. Let the police investigate the truth because I want to know. "I'm the one who called the police and the ambulance," he said.

The court Judge evaluated the testimony given in her presence and ordered the suspect to be detained for 4 days so that the investigation could be conducted safely.
