Foreigner in detention for allegedly assaulting a woman while swimming in the sea

A man identified only as A.K is currently facing trail in a court in Lefkosa for allegedly harassing a woman while swimming on a public beach in Alsancak.

The suspect was arrested at about 7:15pm on Saturday and taken to a court in Lefkosa on Sunday for being drunk and 'sexually assaulting' a woman swimming in the sea by squeezing her hips with his hand.

Police said the suspect was swimming in the sea, at Mare-Monte Public Beach in Alsancak while under the influence of 147 promil alcoholic drink, at Mare-Monte Public Beach in Alsancak.

Police said the suspect who is a foreigner in the country was arrested with a court order and that he did not accept the crime in the statement he gave to the police and the notification of the case.

Police said the suspect was in the country with a work permit and demanded that the court be given a guarantee that would be appropriate.

The suspect, who spoke in court, said that he may have been drunk, but that he did not commit such a crime, and that they collided while swimming in the sea.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Murat Soytaç ordered the suspect to be releaed on bail pending trial, on the condition that he is prohibited from going abroad in order to ensure that he is ready for the case that will be discussed in the future. He must also be present at the nearest police station one day a week, and that 1 credible TRNC citizen guarantor signs a bail bond worth 30 thousand TL.
