Non-vaccinated individuals will now pay for their PCR/rapid tests and quarantine fees - TRNC Prime Minister

Government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Monday announced a series of new decisions concerning the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Speaking after a five-hour-long cabinet meeting, Prime Minister, Ersan Saner said that all non-vaccinated individuals will have to pay for their PCR/rapid tests and accommodation at quarantine facilities as of August 27.

Explaining that all PCR and rapid tests in the country have been carried out free of charge since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the premier said that the new decision was taken to encourage people to get vaccinated.

“As of August 27 all unvaccinated people will have to pay for their PCR/rapid tests and quarantine expenses. A decision was also taken so that all non-vaccinated employees at workplaces will have to register with the Ministry of Health so that the routine tests they have to carry out will be covered by their employers,” said Saner.

The prime minister said that the maximum price for PCR tests was set at 100TL while rapid tests will cost 40 TL, adding that private laboratories will be setting their prices below those rates.

He also said that people who have not completed their vaccination process and end up being a contact case or test positive will have to pay for their own quarantine expenses if they cannot isolate at home.
