TRNC Prime Minister calls on Russian president, Putin to refrain from supporting south Cyprus intransigents in Cyprus

TRNC Prime Minister, Ersan Saner has called on Russian President, Vladamir Putin to see the realities in Cyprus and refrain from contributing to the Greek Cypriot side’s intransigent stance.

Issuing a written statement, Prime Minister Ersan Saner reacted to the letter sent by the Russian President to the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration claiming that a section of the closed city of Maraş being removed from a military zone is in violation of UN resolutions.

The closed city of Maraş was reopened in accordance with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, and there is no contradiction with the United Nations resolutions, said Saner.
It is obvious that Russia is not taking action in line with the realities on the island but preferring to act in its own interests. It is completely ignoring the fact that there are two peoples, two sovereignties and two states on the island” said Saner and added that reopening Maraş is in accordance with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.
Russia should look at the steps it has taken in Crimea and look closely at what it has done elsewhere. We have no intention of violating anyone’s rights, nor will we surrender our rights to anyone, said Saner.
