Foreigner found with over 60 phones at Ercan airport

A foreigner who was trying to exit the TRNC at the Ercan airport in Lefkosa was found with many mobile phones at his disposal.

The suspect, an African identified only as S.P.S was found with many mobile phones at his disposal while trying to exit the country via Ercan airport at about 9:00pm on Wednesday, September, 8 and was arrested for investigation purposes after he could not give an explanation.

He was taken to a court in Lefkosa on Thursday.

Police officer, who testified in court, said 16 Samsung mobile phones and 54 Xiomi Redmi mobile phones were found in his suitcase.

The police said that the suspect was found red-handed and arrested after he could not give a reasonable explanation about the phones in question.  

The suspect stated that he bought the mobile phones from a Malaysian national at his workplace in Iskele in return for a debt.  

Police stated that the investigation is continuing, and there is a wanted person and statements to be taken, and their mobile phones will be examined.  

The suspect was detained for 1 day so that investigation can be carried out safely.
