3 Students arrested for setting fire on a house in Gonyeli

Three students have been arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police in connection with an arson that happened in Gönyeli.

The three suspects identified as Ilham Kharbouchi, 24, Yasin Sarhan, 22 and Mohmmed Zakariae Amghar, 23, were arrested on Monday following a fire incident in an apartment building in Gönyeli at about 6:45am on Monday, October, 11.

Initial report said the fire was caused by a faulty mobile phone charger  

They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of arson. 

According to report, a house owned by one Nurettin Demir, where two of the suspects, resided as tenants, was burned intentionally and illegally with an undetected flammable substance.

Police said that all three suspects entered the country with a student visa and has been determined that their current residence status is legal.

They were ordered by the court judge to be detained for 3 days for more investigation to be carried out on the incident.
