Nigerian woman killed in a fatal car accident in Lefkosa, driver and 2 others injured

The Nigerian student community in North Cyprus was thrown into mourning on Sunday morning following the death of a 36-year-old woman who was killed in a disastrous car accident that happened in Lefkosa on Saturday night.

The unfortunate incident happened at about 2:00am on Sunday, November, 7 on the Near East Boulevard in Lefkosa.

The driver of the car, a 28-year-old Nigerian, was driving on the Near East Boulevard in Lefkosa when he reportedly lost control of the steering at the corner of the road towards Dr. Fazıl Küçük Street, hit the curbstones on the road side, then the pavement and rolled the car over on it's roof.

The deceased, identified as Odion Maureen Paulina, 36, a Nigerian national who was a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene of the accident. Police said they did all they could but couldn't save her.

Three other people including the driver of the vehicle were also injured in the accident. They were taken to the Lefkosa State Hospital and discharged after treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, was arrested and taken to court where he was detained for two days until trial.

The deceased a twin was supposed to celebrate her birthday on Sunday.
