Student in jail for reportedly stealing a construction equipment worth 44TL

For talking a construction equipment worth 44TL, a Nigerian student will be spending the next one month in detention.

The suspect, who was arrested in connection with a theft issue that happened at about 6:00am on Thursday, November, 25, was taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of theft.

Police officer who testified in court, said the suspect was involved in the crime of trespassing a property belonging to another. 

Police said he was caught red handed when he entered the courtyard of Hüseyin Tayfun's residence in Gönyeli without permission.

Police said he took construction equipment worth 44 TL and tried to escape. The stolen item in his possession was taken as exhibit.

It was also discovered that he has been living in the TRNC illegally since 2019. 

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered that the suspect be held in prison for a period not exceeding one month before trial.
