108,295 students currently enrolled in universities in North Cyprus

The TRNC recorded an increase in student enrollment into universities in the country in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu made the announcement on Sunday and according to him, the number of students enrolled in universities in the country increased to 108,295, a record for the 2021-2022 academic year.
 
The Minister stating that a very large number of students came to the country, said, "We are making great efforts to reach the best in every aspect, especially in the quality of education."

He also drew attention to the great contribution of students to the TRNC economy. 

Amcaoğlu noted that in the 2021-2022 academic year, 3,592 of the newly registered students were from the TRNC, 10,148 were from Turkey and 12,907 were from third countries. 

Of the 108,295 registered university students, 51,280 are third-country nationals, 43,101 are citizens of Turkey and 13,are citizens of the TRNC. 

The Minister said, "Our main concern is to achieve a very good quality in education, which we are happy to see that many of our universities have achieved this." 

He said the increase in the number of students in the last four years, despite the epidemic, is a good development for the country's economy.

The total number of students in the 2018 – 2019 academic year was 102,701, and that the total number of newly enrolled students in the same academic year was 20,800.

The total number of students in the 2019 – 2020 academic year was 103,878; and that the total number of newly registered students increased to 21,867.

In the 2020 – 2021 academic year, the total number of students decreased to 103,108; and the total number of newly registered students increased to 22,688.

Regarding the current 2021-2022 academic year figures, the total number of newly registered students in the ongoing academic year is 26,647.  

The total number of students reached a record level with figure of 108,295.” 

While pointing out that the 25 percent increase in the total number of newly enrolled students this year compared to the 2018-2019 academic year is a success, Amcaoğlu added that he would like to congratulate the ministry staff, especially the university administrations, who contributed to this success.
