Five people arrested for violating a military forbidden zone

Five people who entered the TRNC from the south of Cyprus in violation of the military forbidden zone were arrested and brought before the court.

Police stated that the suspects were on trial for the crimes of sneaking in and violating the Military Forbidden Zone in the First Degree.

Explaining that on 10-11 December 2021, all 5 suspects violated the 1st Degree Military Forbidden Zone by sneaking into the area where the military guard posts, are located.

Police said that the suspects were identified by the Police teams on the same day. He said they were arrested as per the pending warrant.

The police said that the suspects declared that they came to the TRNC as refugees in their first statements, but as a result of the investigation, it was determined that they did not come as refugees, but sneaked into the military forbidden zone from Southern Cyprus and violated it. 

Stating that the three suspects voluntarily gave their statements and admitted their crimes, the Police demanded that all of the suspects be kept in prison for a period not exceeding 2 months, since they are all Syrian citizens and do not have any legal ties or legal entry to the TRNC.
