Man to face trial for sexual harassment in a super market

A 32-year-old man who took pictures of the hips of two teenage girls in a supermarket along the Lefkosa-Famagusta road will be tried for sexual harassment. 

According to police statement, the suspect identified only as C.Ö, was shopping in a large super market along the Lefkosa-Famagusta road when he started taking pictures of the hips of two girls, aged 20 and 15 years old.

The suspect was arrested following a complaint and taken to court on Sunday for “private life violation and sexual harassment”. The suspect denied the accusations.

Police said camera footage examined showed that the suspect took the pictures in the middle aisle of the market, while following the the girls.   

Police said the suspect had deleted the images from his phone and that the necessary order was obtained under the Cybercrimes Law that will enable the images to be retrieved from the phone. 

Police also stated that the suspect in his second statement on the same day said that he was offended by his wife and that he took the photos to show her off, but did not give a voluntary statement.

Police said investigation is still ongoing and that camera images and that the suspect mobile phone will be investigated. 

The judge ordered the suspect to be detain for 3 days for the purpose of investigation.
