Man turns wife into a punching bag in Lefkosa

Violence against women in the TRNC is a common thing, despite all efforts by the government and human right groups to curb the trend.

In another case of violence against women, a 40-year-old has been detained and to face trial for violently assaulting his wife in Lefkosa.

The 40-year-old man identified with the initials, K.E, severely battered his 35-year-old wife which lead to his arrest on Saturday.

He was taken to court on charges of "serious assault".

According to police testimony in court, the suspect, with his wife, who is resident in Girne were in their car in front of a tavern on Bedreddin Demirel Street in Lefkosa when an argument broke out between them. 

Police said while the two were having an argument, the man severely battered his wife by punching her in the face, head and neck." This claim was recorded in a doctor's report.

The suspect who gave voluntarily statement on the incident, confessed to his crime.

Police said they will carry out more investigation on the issue and see if the incident was captured on camera.

The suspect was ordered to be detained for 2 days for investigation purpose.
